Margaret’s team has assisted her with getting to and from her medical appointments by arranging transportation. Recently, during a routine eye exam, Margaret’s eye doctor noticed that Margaret had weakness only in her left side and had her sent to the Emergency Room where it was found that she was having a stroke. Transportation to this appointment was scheduled by Margaret’s IDT as she has no informal supports to assist her with this need. Without this routine medical transportation, Margaret, may not have had the needed interventions to minimize the side effects of her stroke. The coordination of the entire team helped Margaret during and after this significant health event.
After the incident Margaret stated that she was happy that she was at her doctor appointment when the stroke happened. She states that she did not know that she was having a stroke and would not have understood the importance to contact emergency services.
